Definition The presence of functioning endometrium outside the uterine mucosa is termed Endometriosis. Common sites include the ovaries, cul-de-sac (including uterosacral ligaments), peritoneum over the bladder, sigmoid colon, back of the uterus, intestinal coils, and appendix.
